Starlight Legacy - What Was Even the Goal Here?
I don't think I can even call this a review.
You'll notice I usually break apart my reviews with various points I want to highlight about the game. The problem with trying to do that here is my point for every aspect of Starlight Legacy is largely going to boil down to the same point. It's also why you haven't even seen me describe this game to you yet. At the end of the day, when it comes to Starlight Legacy there just... isn't really anything here.
It's a turn-based RPG where the obviously evil king sends you on a mission that is not going to go well. And he's evil because he's racist for some reason. Also, the health of the world is tied to the Eternity Tree for some reason. Also somewhere is some legendary sword that can defeat him, because of reasons. I don't even feel I'm being unfair here, there are just a couple of plot points here and there that never really feel like the connection.
And the lack of depth or even inspiration is painfully obvious in the combat. You have the most basic of abilities you would expect in an RPG and nothing more. Which would be fine if it was executed well but like everything else about this game, there just doesn't feel like anything is there. It's to the point I don't know if this game really can be reviewed because I am just here wondering what it is I'm even supposed to be talking about. It's honestly one of the worst things I think I have ever said about a game because even bad games generally feel as though they at least tried. I walked away from this game just entirely unsure of what the attempt even was.
